My PhD was in particle physics at Michigan State, as a member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN. The work centered on machine learning for pulling rare physics signals out of much larger backgrounds, which is the same problem I work on now with different nouns. My dissertation, listed with my publications, was a search for heavy resonances decaying to top-quark pairs in the lepton-plus-jets final state. I also worked on the statistical combination of that search with other searches for the same resonances in different final states. My authorship qualification task was on the construction of small monitored drift tubes for the muon spectrometer in the Phase-II upgrade.

As an undergraduate at West Virginia University I studied the photon statistics of single self-assembled quantum dots under resonant excitation, which is where the Physical Review B paper comes from.
